WEATHER UPDATE: Due to freezing temperatures, our campus is closed on Wednesday, January 22. This includes the After School and Day School programs.
We have a Senior! We encourage Wieuca members to write prayers, drop off cards/gifts, and send well wishes to Jewels. Drop off at the church office by Sunday, May 5th.
A note from our student pastor:
We are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of one of our own—Leila Jewels Durden, a senior student graduating with honors from Killian Hill Christian School on May 24! As she prepares to embark on the next chapter of her journey, we reflect on the incredible growth and dedication she has shown during her time with us at Wieuca.
Jewels has achieved an impressive GPA of 4.4 and completed 36 hours of dual enrollment classes, setting her on a promising path to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, this August, where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing. She has qualified for the Zell Scholarship and has been awarded the Eagle Scholar Scholarship at Southern.
While in high school, Jewels always focused on school and soccer so that she could play soccer in college. She played varsity soccer since 8th grade, and was awarded All-Region Soccer Player, MVP Soccer Player for Killian Hill, and All-Tournament Soccer Player at college tournaments. Despite facing the challenge of six knee surgeries which ended her active participation in soccer, Jewels' spirit and passion for the sport have remained unbroken.
Beyond the soccer field, Jewels has shown tremendous versatility and leadership in the arts. She participated in Fine Arts Competitions at both state and national levels, winning in Choris, band, choir, ensemble, Declamation Speech, and large instrument ensemble. She was in every school production or musical from "Peter Pan" and "Beauty and the Beast" to "The Wizard of Oz." She was awarded the Leadership Award for Fine Arts at Killian Hill.
The school administration selected her for the Good Citizen Award by the Daughters of the American Revolution, a testament to her exemplary character and civic engagement. As a Student Class Representative, Small Group Leader, and Ambassador for Killian Hill, as well as a member of the National Honor Society, Jewels has demonstrated leadership, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility.
She has not only excelled academically, but also made significant contributions to our church community through her involvement in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Camp Wieuca.
Please join us in congratulating Leila Jewels Durden on her graduation and celebrating her bright future. We are immensely proud of her achievements and can't wait to see all that she accomplishes in the coming years. Way to go, Jewels! Your church family cheers you on every step of the way!
